Christmas is almost here and boy is Santa busy! My desk is piled high with millions of letters to read – wish lists and special requests and, my favorite, the most sweetly earnest letters from children telling me how good they’ve been this year. (Santa has been doing this a long time, but not one of those has ever failed to convince me!)

Can you imagine how much work there is to be done up here at the North Pole? The children think its all fun and games – snowball fights and reindeer races and little elves pulling practical jokes in the workshop. And it’s good that they think that, don’t you agree?

We celebrate the birth of our savior Jesus Christ, and we also celebrate our faith and being family, friends and all of our loved ones. What a pleasure it is to see their children’s eyes light up with joy at the sight of a stocking stuffed with little wonders, to witness their delight at finding a gift wrapped just for them under the tree.

You know _________, Santa may loom large in the imaginations of little children come Christmastime, but that’s nothing compared to the role you play and the job you do – each and every day of your child’s life. So Santa wants to thank you for that. I’ve got something special in my bag for you this year.

Preparing for Christmas truly is hard work for us grown-ups, but we know it’s for a very good reason. And no matter how stressful and busy are lives are each December, on Christmas morning we are reminded once again why we do it, year after year. What a pleasure it is to see children’s eyes light up with joy at the sight of a stocking stuffed with little wonders, to witness their delight at finding a gift wrapped just for them under the tree.

Yet let us always remember that Christmastime is about much more than presents under the tree. It’s a season that reminds us to be kind and generous to everyone we meet and to follow in the footsteps of Him whose birth we celebrate on that special day each December.

It was on that first Christmas Eve so long ago when the brightest star in the sky led wise men to a manger in Bethlehem, where Our Savior Jesus Christ was born. And with the dawn of His redeeming grace, all of God’s children were blessed forevermore.
