You must be quite surprised to be holding this letter in your hands! I remember, long ago, when you decided that you were too old to believe in Santa Claus. Some people think that it makes Santa sad when little boys & girls grow up and decide they don’t believe in me anymore, but I almost always chuckle when it happens. Why?

Because I know that the spirit of Christmas lives on in each and every one of them. I know that they feel that swelling of the heart after witnessing some random act of kindness between strangers on the cold December streets. When those more fortunate give all they can afford to aid the hungry and the poor, I know that the voices of children singing carols, and church bells tolling through the wintry night, still touches that place deep within the heart as if it were the first time you ever heard such sounds. And I know that there is a special kind of joy in the eyes of a child on Christmas morning, and that you cherish that just as I do.

When you think about it, all of these moments are like small miracles, and if you look hard enough you’ll see that the season of Christmas is filled with them. You can think of me as one more small miracle if you like (although Mrs. Claus insists my belly is anything but small). The important thing is to help me spread the joy of Christmas to everyone you meet, and especially children.
